We leave Thessaloniki and head east. After a few day's walking we come to the remains of the ancient Macedonian city of Amphipolis. We'll then come to the ruins of the Roman city of Philippi, which Saint Paul visited, and where in 42 BC, Mark Anthony and Octavian defeated Julius Caesar’s killers, Cassius and Brutus, before coming into the picturesque port city of Kavala.
The Macedonian coast has a number of refugee camps and we will spend time meeting with and hearing the stories of these communities. From here we walk on through Xanthi and Komotini before entering into Turkey at the Kipoli border crossing.
Once in Turkey we continue to Kesan from where it will be possible to travel down to Gallipoli and the WW1 memorials at Anzac cove. We then come to the Byzantium city and tourist resort of Tekirdağ on the Sea of Marmara. From here we follow the shore to Maramara Ereglisi at which point it starts to become more urbanised as we come to the city of Silvri.
Then, at last, we enter one of the world's greatest cities, the magnificent Istanbul. We will have a couple of days here savoring the city and its numerous sights before heading home or traveling to Amman to complete our journey.
